Janine Harris has swept aside the competition to be named Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2016 Gosford and Erina Chamber of Commerce Awards.
Her company Mrs Mop is cleaning up big time after a career change just a couple of years ago saw Miss Harris swap dental floss for floor wax.
A trained dental technician, Miss Harris worked in that industry for 15 years, first in her native Wales and then after relocating to Kincumber a few years ago.
But she soon realised it was time for a career change.
"The dental industry had changed so much due to modern technology that there was now a machine chairside that did my job", she said. "I researched jobs that couldn't be taken over by modern technology and a trade was the obvious answer."
Finally Miss Harris sold her dental lab and registered her cleaning business Mrs Mop.
"To win the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award was life changing. To have all of my hard work and long hours recognised cemented my sometimes wavering belief that I was doing the right thing. Setting up a business is difficult, you have to become an expert in business management, marketing, accounting, law, HR, customer service, staff training, leadership, market esearch, economics, administration........it is daunting, difficult, sometimes impossible."
Miss Harris said she planned to begin trading in Sydney by the end of the year.
